Mt. Biking: Angler's Retreat Wind Direction: N?A Wind Stength: N/A Surf / Sea State: N/A Air Temperature: 2ÂșC Sea Temperature: N/A Weather: Raining Max Speed: 24.3 mph (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 12.5 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
What a lovely night, dark, raining, windy and cold - perfect for a night
ride at Angler's Retreat.
It didn't put me, Dave, John or Dan off though and we were soon kited up
and heading off along the fire-road. The first bit of singletrack was down
along the forest trails to the rocky step. I managed to clear it again
which was good and it actually felt quite easy. I then felt pretty
comfortable down along the MX trails to the fireroad as well.
We then headed off to the ford. John was up to his usual tricks, as soon as
something looks a little different or not quite right he jumps off his bike
and throws himself to the ground. I think he only came off about 3 times
last night, but the first was the most spectacular.
There was till quite a bit of snow about so we had to push a little through
some of the gulleys. In places the snow was still about 3 foot deep which
made the going tougher than usual. Because of this we decided against going
down the chute, just in case the north-facing climb back up was covered in
snow. Instead we dropped down into Artists Valley and looped back around to
the cars.
Cold, wet and windy and with very low visibility in places but a nice ride
despite the conditions.
